A BUS service between Nelson and Colne has been saved.

The number 16 service was facing the axe as part of Lancashire County Council’s progr-amme of cuts.

But bosses at Pendle Council and the county council have come to an agreement to maintain the route.

Using money from the Sainbury’s section 106 agreement, the service will now run on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from May 31.

County Councillor George Askew said: “This is good news. It really looked likely at one stage that the whole service would be cut but we’ve managed to save it.

"Pendle Council has worked very well with the County Council in finding this solution.”

Coun Neil Butterworth said: “I was keen to see this bus service remain and I am pleased that we've managed to do it.

"Many people rely on our local buses and would have struggled without this service.”
