A blue plaque has been unveiled at the Nelson house where cricketing legend Lord Learie Constantine lived when he played for the town’s team.
The West Indian, pro at Nelson between 1929 and 1937, was knighted in 1962 and in 1969 became the first person of African descent to be made a life peer.
He lived at 3 Meredith Street from 1930 to 1949.
Lord Constantine helped Nelson CC to eight Lancashire League titles during his time with the club and was later an MP in Trinidad.
Five thousand people witnessed his debut against Accrington in 1929.
