FOR most slimmers a visit to the local takeaway is an absolute no-no.

But not if you live in Padiham, where a chippy has started serving up dishes for dieters alongside fish and chips.

Three members of staff at the Pendle Street fish and chip shop decided to start offering the meals after joining their local Slimming World group six weeks ago.

Kim Duckworth, one of the slimmers, said: “When we went to Slimming World we saw customers we hadn’t seen for a while, and then it clicked and we realised why.

“People don’t always want to cook, but there is nowhere to get proper healthy meals as a takeaway, even sandwich shops have butter and mayonnaise.

“Since we started it has been going down quite well. We have had a really good response and have customers coming from as far as Barrowford.

“We now cater for both options. If some of the family want a chippy tea but some want to be healthy then we can do both.”

So far five Slimming World friendly options have been added to the menu. They are a chicken and vegetable curry with rice, beef and mixed bean chilli with rice, pasta amarantica, haddock, potato and sweetcorn fishcakes and steamed fish and peas.

Kim said: “We’ve had such a good response that we’re going to start adding more dishes to the menu.

“It is something that has really been lacking in the local area and it is something that the community needs.”
