AN 87-YEAR-OLD man has been taken to hospital this afternoon with a cut to his head after the car he was travelling in flipped in a crash in Cliviger.

Police have closed the A671 Bacup Road in both directions between its junctions with Todmorden Road and Crown Point Road following the incident, which happened around 1.50pm.

A police spokesman said a silver Vauxhall Corsa careered off the road, through a fence and over-turned.

A woman was also said to have been inside the car but was not reported as injured in the accident.

The man was cut free by firefighters and taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Traffic was said to be affected between Bacup and Burnley.
