STANLEY have already moved mountains to reach the League Two play-offs - now their chief executive is planning to climb one.

Rob Heys is aiming to scale Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, with a team from the Football League to raise charity cash.

A team of 30, including Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara, Five Live's Mark Clemmit, managers Aidy Boothroyd and Brendan Rogers, Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson and Football League chief operating officer Andy Williamson, will leave England on June 27.

They are raising as much money as possible for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The Football League aims to raise £500,000 this season for the charity.

Rob is personally covering the cost of the trip so every single penny donated will go to the charity.

He said: "I am really looking forward to the climb.

"There are a great set of people going and hopefully we will raise a lot of money for a great charity in Marie Curie Cancer Care.

“A lot of the people taking part in the climb have been helped personally by Marie Curie nurses.

"I just thought it was brilliant opportunity to help a worthwhile charity."

Standing at 19,341ft above sea level, the climb will be a test of physical and mental endurance.

But Rob is confident he can reach new heights for charity.

He added: "The training is going really welll and Pendle Hill is becoming a favourite spot for me to do lots of walking and get fit.

"With promotion in our sights here at Accrington Stanley, the elevation won’t be a problem either."
