PLANS for a car boot sale on the Saturday outdoor market in Colne are set to be shelved.

The idea was mooted by the Colne Town Centre Forum in a bid to boost footfall at the market and in the town centre.

They said numbers had suffered from the new Sainsbury’s store nearby, the poor economy and bad weather.

But after consultations with traders and market bosses, the idea is likely to be refused by the council on Thursday.

Members said a car boot sale would affect the look and feel of the market and create additional competition with existing traders, could sell goods that reflect badly on the market, and take up space.
