A FIRE which spread through derelict properties connected to a former mill in Padiham is being investigated.
Firefighters spent an hour tackling the blaze at the eyesore Perseverance Mill site at around 9pm on Monday night.
The fire had started in a disused building connected to the now derelict mill site, in Whytham Street.
In February, the Lancashire Telegraph reported on a six-year battle by neighbours to have the site, which is now a mountain of rubbish and rubble, cleaned up.
A number of people expressed concern at the time that the derelict buildings were a fire hazard.
Coun Bob Clark, mayor of Padiham, said: “This is absolutely diabolical”
Bosses at Burnley Council said they are working hard to get the landowner to clear the site.
