FOUR Darwen primary school pupils need £2,000 to represent the UK in a global competition.

For eight months, Troy, Caitlin, Catriona and Tia, have practised their critical thinking and problem- solving skills at St Joseph’s RC Primary’s after-school club.

In April, after regional heats, they won the national Destination Imagination competition in Bradford, for a chance to take on children from across the world.

Questions they faced included how to move 50 sheep across a field in the shortest time.

The year 5 pupils have already raised £3,000 for their accommodation and fares to Tennessee, USA, but they need £5,000 altogether.

A school spokeswoman said: “It’s an amazing opportunity for the children who have worked very hard to get to the global finals.

"Three have never been out of the country before.

“The children have already managed to raise £3,000 by holding discos, completing sponsored walks, approaching charities, holding parties and raffles, but we need an extra boost.”

The global finals are on May 22. Anyone able to make a cash gift or donate to a raffle can call the school on 01254 706264.
