A bevy of beauties are going head-to-head to be crowned Miss Burnley and Miss Blackburn 2011.

Thirty-two girls will get the chance to taste life on the catwalk in the grand final later this month.

The winners will receive around £1,000 in prizes each.

They will then be entered into the semi-finals of the Miss England competition in June.

And they could even make it to the Miss World final if they win the top title.

Regional organiser Mark Jones said a panel of judges, including former Miss Burnley Catherine Drain and Miss Blackburn Heather Whalley, would pick the winners for both towns at a catwalk fashion show at the Thwaites Empire Theatre, Blackburn, on May 29.

He said: “We’ve had three times as many entrants this year which is brilliant.

“All the girls are in it for different reasons.

“Some will use it to pursue a career in modelling, a lot want to gain confidence, some want to become TV hosts and others want to pay off university loans.

“But the main thing is about having fun and appearing in a big catwalk show.

“That is something they wouldn’t ordinarily be able to do.”
