AN annual lecture in memory of a former Nelson and Colne MP has been hailed a success.
The annual Sydney Silverman Memorial lecture was given at Primet Community Centre by Graham Jones, MP for Haslingden and Hyndburn.
Before the lecture, a short address was given by Tim Orm-rod, North West president of the Co-operative Party, which sponsored the event.
Mr Ormrod reflected on the socialist principles of Sydney Silverman, who was MP from 1935 to 1968, and his commitment and passion for moral issues.
He also talked briefly about the principles of the Co-operative movement.
Organisers said Mr Jones gave an ‘excellent’ lecture, highlighting key issues for political campaigning from his years as a councillor in Hyndburn and his success at last year’s general election.
A ‘question and answer’ session also took place.
