BURGLARY victims are being invited to reclaim their stolen items at an “Aladdin’s Cave” set up by police.

The suspected stolen property includes electrical goods, tools, lawn mowers, fishing tackle, bikes and jewellery.

The goods were seized from various properties during police raids carried out as part of Operation Loreley, a major crackdown on theft and burglary in the Burnley area.

Police officers have been able to identify the owners of some of the items but a number are still unclaimed.

Burnley residents whose homes have been burgled are being urged to visit the “Aladdin’s Cave” to see if they can pick out their belongings.

Det Sgt Pauline Tyrell, of Burnley CID, said: “We have been cross referencing the items with those which have been reported to us as stolen.

“But a significant amount of the seized property still needs to be returned to those who rightfully own it.

“We have selected the specific items photographed in the hope that someone may be able to identify them and would urge any one who recognises the items pictured to contact police.”

The property is kept at Waterfoot police station, in Bacup Road.

DS Tyrell said: “Having property stolen is a costly inconvenience and can also have the added blow of seeing you lose sentimental items.

“We want to reunite owners with their property and hope that many of these items will now be claimed.”

Anyone wishing to claim property should telephone Waterfoot police station on 01706 237313.
