JOBS at Baxenden-based Holland's Pies are safe despite parent company Northern Foods announcing almost 700 job losses.
The Leeds food firm has revealed it is to close its Trafford Park bakery, Manchester, which produces a range of chilled savoury pastry products.
The bakery suffered losses of more than £3million before tax in 2005/06 and the closure, which will be complete by December will result in the loss of 690 jobs.
But a spokesman for the firm has confirmed that the Holland's bakery in Baxenden will not be affected by the move, which will allow Northern Foods to concentrate on its more profitable firms.
Northern Foods is also known for producing Goodfella's Pizzas and Fox's biscuits, and counts Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's as customers. But earlier this year the firm revealed profits had slipped from £75.4million to £4.3million.
