AN East Lancashire charity for vulnerable people, and their carers, has been given a £55,000 cash boost.

Care Network Limited, in Blackburn, was one of three local charities to benefit from £1.6million government funding handed out to 21 organisations across the North West.

The charity, created in March 2003, helps more than 6,000 vulnerable people, including older people with physical or learning disabilities, and people with mental health problems, to live independently.

James Hadley, manager at the charity, said: “The funding will enable us to adapt to changes in a different funding climate.”

Other charities to benefit from the funding included Pendle-based Brierfield Action in the Community, which received £40,685, and Pendle-based Building Bridges Interfaith Community Project was given £23,926.
