THE main road through Darwen is ‘absolutely filthy’ and giving a bad impression of the town, a town councillor claims.

Brenda Cronshaw has called on the borough council to improve cleansing along the A666.

She said: “What’s the point of putting flags up along the A666 when we’ve got filthy footpaths, gutters and roads?

“I’m concerned about the image it’s giving of Darwen to stangers.

"It’s only cleaned on a Monday. It should be done on Fridays as well.”

Mayor Paul Browne said: “It’s not the council’s fault.

"We need to educate people not to throw rubbish out of their windows or on the floor as they walk along.”
