A DARWEN man has died after being hit by a taxi in Bolton.
Police were called to St Peter’s Way dual carriageway, close to its junction with Bradford Street, just after midnight on Saturday.
Craig Higgs, 23, of Beaumont Way, Darwen, was taken to hospital in a critical condition after suffering a serious head injury.
He had been on foot and when he was involved in a collision with a taxi, police said.
Despite battling for life for several hours, he was pronounced dead later on Saturday morning.
Investigations on how he came to be on the carriageway are still ongoing.
Police are appealing for any witness to contact them as soon as possible.
Officers closed St Peter’s Way for five hours following the incident, to examine the scene.
A police spokesman said: “The collision happened about 300 metres north of the junction with Bradford Street.
“The man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury but sadly died later that day.
“The carriageway was closed for five hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.”
