THE GROUNDS of a Lancashire stately home are set to be transformed to create a celebration of much-loved fairy tales at a flower festival.

Hoghton Tower is set to have a yellow brick road installed and displays will portray Cinderella and Alice In Wonderland when the North West Area of the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies marks its golden anniversary in September.

The 50-year celebration will see 68 flower clubs from throughout the North West stage displays on the theme of magical fairy tales.

It will be one of the largest gatherings of the society in the area.

Pauline Walker is helping to organise the four-day festival, from September 29 to October 2.

She said: “We’re hoping it will be a brilliant day out for families.

“Children will be entertained and adults possibly more so as they relive childhood memories.

“We’re intending for there to be a yellow brick road up to the entrance and into the courtyard before entering into a magical world where families can see Cinderella and her coach and maybe meet Alice.”

Other attractions at the festival will include tours of the historic building, a Crafty Corner selling craft products and plant stalls and a range of refreshments.

Funds raised from the festival will support The Make-A-Wish Foundation charity, which grants wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

An enchanted tree will also be set up in the courtyard on which visitors can hang their own wish.
