THOUSANDS of Muslims marched through the streets of Nelson yesterday to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Mohammed.
The procession set off from the Ghousia Jamia Mosque in Clayton Street.
Marchers traditionally mark the occasion by throwing flowers into the street and displaying specially-crafted banners.
The festival, known as Mawlid, was celebrated last Tuesday by Sunnis and yesterday by the Shia faithful.
