TWO lanes of the M6 in Lancashire were closed after a van crashed this afternoon.

Police said the Mercedes Sprinter van hit the central reservation while travelling on the northbound carriageway at 1pm.

One man was cut free of the van and his condition is being assessed by ambulance staff.

Lanes two and three of both carriageways were closed north of Charnock Richard services and motorists were warned of severe delays in the area.

The lanes were reopened a few hours later.
