EXTRA protection could be given to several key buildings in the heart of Rawtenstall if conservation plans are approved.
Some of the oldest buildings in the Rossendale town, picturesque stone-built cottages in Springfield Road dating back to the 17th century, will benefit if the town centre conservation area is extended.
Weavers’ cottages in nearby Waingate Road, built in the 18th century, would also be included, under the same plans. And Hurst Farmhouse, from the same period, has also been earmarked as being of architectural merit.
Another priority for the conservation area, according to council planning bosses, is the future of grade II listed buildings Holly Mount, St Mary’s Way, and Springfield House, Newchurch Road.
Each is vacant and up for sale. Views on the proposed conservation area extension are being sought before January 10.
