A BATH filled with cannabis plants was found during a drugs raid at a one-bedroom flat in Blackburn this afternoon.

Police swooped on the Twin Valley Homes property in Borrowdale Avenue, Queen's Park, after a tip-off.

They found 11 plants of varying maturity, worth around £1,500, being grown in the bathroom.

The flat had no bed but was filled with toys, a baby chair, a bottle and medicine for toddlers.

Police said the evidence suggested a child had been exposed to the cannabis cultivation.

Community beat manager PC Tom Sanford said: “Earlier this month we got some intelligence to say there was cannabis cultivation at this address.

“I made a disruption visit. There was no answer, but at the back of the premises were bags of empty compost, foil extraction panels and other items.

“We executed a warrant around 2.30pm. There was no answer so we forced entry and found the whole bath filled with cannabis plants.

“It is not the most sophisticated set-up, but there would be enough yield from the plants to sell on.”

PC Sanford urged the local community to contact police with any information on suspected drug activity.

Sgt Mark Cruise said: “We are going to target people cultivating cannabis.

“People don’t understand the health implications of not just growing cannabis, but smoking it.

"Not in this case, but organised crime groups can often be behind cannabis cultivation.”
