MORE than 7,000 people have voted on the Lancashire Telegraph website following the sacking of Sam Allardyce — and most say it was the wrong decision.

The unprecedented size of the vote - the biggest in the website's history - comes as the football world continues to condemn the dismissal.

Seventy five per cent of those polled said Allardyce should have remained.

The votes were cast inside just 24 hours following the bombshell that Allardyce had been sacked.

As well as responding to the poll, fans have posted 750 comments on our website, making it the number one focal point for the Rovers debate.

And as speculation continues about the next manager, sources have revealed Rovers title-winning legend Alan Shearer is interested in the post.

But the Venky's family are insisting that it could take two months to make an appointment.

John Myles, the Telegraph's Rovers columnist, said the response to the poll showed the sacking had upset even those fans who had not previously been Allardyce supporters.

He said: "My view is that Sam Allardyce was never the most popular manager we have had but he brought a level of stability.

"There is not a depth of real anguish that Sam has gone, just a level of concern at what it means.

"There was a lot of respect and admiration at what Sam had done at Ewood but now the fans are seriously concerned about what the next move will be.

"We are at a crossroads now and things could go two very different ways."
