BLACKBURN bus maker Optare has appointed two Indian businessmen to its board.

Dr V Sumantran and R Seshasayee join as non-executive directors after Indian-controlled firm Ashok Leyland took a 26 per cent share in the Lancashire company earlier this year.

Dr Sumantran is chairman of Ashok Leyland, owned by the Hinduja holding company. Mr Seshasayee is managing director of Ashok Leyland and previously represented India at the Doha World Trade Organisation talks.

Bosses at Optare, based in Lower Philips Road, Whitebirk, believe the tie-up will give it increased expertise and a foothold in lucrative Asian markets.
