TWO major new developments in Accrington are nearing completion in the town centre.

The new £32million Tesco superstore and £2million railway station, both off Eagle Street, are taking shape.

The station scheme, which will be completed shortly, will be one of the most eco-friendly in the country.

It has been rebuilt using “green” materials.

There is an electricity-generating wind turbine, rainwater used in its bathrooms and roof solar panels heat water.

The station, which includes a new 40 space car park with disabled and parent friendly spaces, is expected to start being used in the autumn.

The station will also feature 10 secure lockers for cycle parking and 10 cycle ‘hoops’.

The Tesco supermarket will open at the end of the year.
