A BY-ELECTION is set to take place in the Peel ward of Hyndburn on July 1 after new MP Graham Jones relinquished his seat.
The by-election will be contested by Wendy Dwyer (Lab) and Danny Cassidy (Con).
However, Mr Jones announced that he is to stay on as a county councillor.
Mr Jones, who has also quit his day job as a printer, said it had been a tough decision deciding what roles to continue after his election to Parliament.
He said: “My own view on district or county, and I always intended to carry in one, has reversed from that before the election.
“I realised that the big schemes that occur in this area traverse Lancashire County Council - Elevate, Building Schools for the Future, Todmorden Curve, Great Harwood bus interchange and Huncoat waste transfer station.”
