A WORLD record bid by an East Lancashire band was marred by a clash with security guards outside the home of Manchester United.

Shakeys Brother were aiming to play their South Africa 2010 anthem England 'Til I Die outside 90 football grounds.

But, when plugging in to play outside Old Trafford, they were kicked off the premises by security staff.

Club officials insist the Sabden band had not received official permission to play outside the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

But band manager Michael Watson said members of the five-piece outfit were 'shocked' to be shunned by the club.

Shakey’s have been raising money for the Help for Heroes charity by performing their self-penned England Till I Die around the country.

Michael said: “The lads have been working for up to 12 hours a day and this was like a kick in the teeth.

"It was shocking. We have had no problems wherever we have been but the biggest club in the world didn’t want to know.

“We had been to Manchester City earlier in the day and there were no problems.”

Band members had received a warm welcome from Torquay to Burnley and Blackburn, with more than 100 people turning up outside Turf Moor.

Manchester United spokesman Karen Shotbolt said: “Unfortunately, we do not allow onto the prohibited area where they parked up.

“If they had asked us for permission then there would have been no problems but they still would not have been allowed to perform there.”

She confirmed the band had approached the club’s customer care team, and attempted to secure the attendance of a player, but had not asked about performing their single.

Today the band is taking their tour to Cumbria and the north-east, with stop-offs in Carlisle, Newcastle, Sunderland and Hartlepool before finishing off in Middlesbrough, Darlington and Hull.

Last year, Shakeys Brother hit national headlines after the Lancashire Telegraph revealed they were on the longlist for a Grammy award on the back of their eponymous five-track EP.
