ANTI-dog fouling posters designed by a 10-year-old boy are being displayed in a ‘hot spot’ area near his school in a bid to stamp out the problem.

Bradley Clark won a competition to come up with an anti-dog fouling poster.

His colourful designs have now been turned into a huge banner, which will be hung outside Castercliff Community Primary School, in Nelson.

The competition was run by Pendle Council’s dog welfare team and could now be repeated at other schools across the area which have a similar problem.

Dog welfare officer Laura Robinson hopes the action will persuade dog owner’s to act more responsibly and pick up after their pets.

She said: “The area around the school is sometimes spoiled by dog fouling and we tend to pick up quite a lot of stray dogs there too.

“By teaching the children how to care for their pets, we hope that the message will be passed on to parents and grandparents as well.”

Officers Laura and Kat Bullas set year 5 and 6 pupils the poster challenge after several visits to the school with dog Bimbo.

Headteacher Ian Chester said: “Laura, Katrina and Bimbo the dog have been into Castercliff School several times in recent months.

“The children have got to know them well, they look forward to them coming and enjoy their company.

“Their visits have certainly helped to raise the children’s awareness of pet care and the responsibilities that dog ownership brings.

“They have also been the prompt for a lot of discussion.”

As part of his prize for winning the competition, Bradley received a t-shirt with his design printed on it.

He will also receive a family ticket to see a film at The ACE Centre, Nelson.
