AN East Lancashire college has axed 12 jobs after the Government ended two education schemes.
But bosses at Burnley College have found jobs elsewhere at the institution for 10 of those affected.
Another member of staff who was made redundant has secured employment with one of the college’s partners.
College bosses are working with the remaining workers to try to employ them elsewhere on-site.
The job losses come as the Government scrapped Entry to Employment Programmes and the funding for the Train to Gain scheme.
The popular courses aimed to get people into employment instead of claiming benefits and provide additional qualifications for those in work.
College principal, Hugh Bramwell said: “The college has been marginally affected by the Government’s recent national decision to close the controversial Train to Gain provision and the Entry to Employment Programmes.
“However, this affects very few staff at the college and most staff affected have secured work within the college’s growth areas with one manager going to work with a close working partner.”
Blackburn College ran the schemes, but said it had not axed any jobs as people involved in the scheme, either in administration or teaching, were involved in other projects.
Principal Ian Clinton, said: “We can confirm that Blackburn College is continuing to work positively with all employers and that none of the employees will miss out due to these changes.
“No Blackburn College staff member is being made redundant as part of these changes – their skills are still extremely important to us.”
Mike Damms, chief executive of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Reducing some of the training isn’t going to be helping.
"I hope the Government is going to concentrate on creating job opportunities.”
