VILLAGE leaders in Pendle are aiming to solve an identity crisis with the unveiling of a £17,500 road signs project.

Nameplates on the eight roads in and out of Barrowford are either missing, dilapidated or in the wrong place.

Parish councillors and Pendle Council have launched a bid to overhaul the boundary signs as part of a civic pride scheme.

Funding will also be spent to replace old Christmas lights and street planters, to aid the village’s North West in Bloom competition ambitions.

Any left over money will be spent on new benches along Gisburn Road.

The parish council has committed £3,500 to the initiative and Barrowford and Western Parishes Committee has been asked to contribute.
