BOGUS workmen stole cash from an elderly couple after tricking their way into their home.

Around 2pm today, two men, claiming they were working on a nearby house, told the couple, who are in their 80s, they needed to check the water pressure at their home in Whalley Road, Langho.

They distracted the couple by asking them to hold the taps in the kitchen before stealing a purse containing £80 from a handbag in the living room.

Both men were described as white, aged in their late 20s and slim. One had short fair hair and was wearing dark trousers and a blue shirt and tie. He was described as being fresh faced.

The second man had short dark hair and was 5ft 10ins tall. He was clean shaven and was wearing a green shirt, dark trousers and black shoes.

Both ran off towards York Lane.

Officers want to trace the drivers of a silver coloured car and a blue Fiat who appeared to follow after the men.

Detective Sergeant Mark Saunders of Accrington CID said: "The couple have been left frightened and distressed by this ordeal and I urge anyone with information to come forward."
