A GRUELLING 27.5 mile trek by three Blackburn police officers has helped raise £500 for charity.

PCs James Cooper, Phill Needham and Paul Meades completed the nine-hour walk last Tuesday, from Warrington, through Leigh and Atherton into Bolton in aid of prostate cancer.

The officers, who completed the walk in their own time, embarked on the challenge after a family member of PC Needham was recently diagnosed with the disease.

PC Cooper said: “We are really grateful for everyone’s help and donations so far.

“It is an unfortunate reality that at some stage in your life you will know someone who will suffer from cancer and we are pleased to be helping this worthy cause.”

Blackburn geographic Inspector Steve Dowson added: “I am very proud of their achievement and would encourage people to support this worthy cause.”
