PEOPLE living near a controversial night spot in Barrowford have claimed they have endured a “living nightmare” thanks to unruly customers and loud music.

But bosses at Punch Taverns claim the problems at The Residence, in Gisburn Road, insist that new supervisor Samantha Bishop will clean up the venue.

Pendle Council’s environmental health department and Lancashire Police had called for a licensing review of the bar, formerly known as Jack’s and once owned by Shameless star Jody Latham.

The review is the second in a seven months and follows 63 complaints from residents between September 2009 and March this year.

Carmela Lo Presti, environmental health officer, told the review hearing yesterday that Punch only sought to tackle problems at The Residence when threatened with licensing reviews. But lawyers representing the Staffordshire-based pubs giant said problems had ceased since the removal of former manager Ogheneochucko Odudu.

John Cohen, for Punch, said offers had been made to limit opening hours to 1am or 2am to midnight each day and noise limiters and air conditioning had been installed so doors could be kept closed.

The licensing committee allowed the pub to keep its licence, but it must stop serving at 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and midnight on Fridays and Saturday.
