ALL THE glitz and glamour of the hairdressing world has been on display in Pendle.

Nelson and Colne College’s annual hairdressing awards took place in an extravagant showbiz ceremony.

No expense was spared by the finalists who showed innovation as they try and outdo each other.

Claire Pye, head of the hairdressing division at the college, said: “The competition was a great success and a true reflection of the students’ outstanding talents.

“Each year the standard gets higher and higher, with the Avant Garde category drawing in particularly innovative and visually impressive designs.

“This year's final show had a ‘Style through the ages’ theme and in addition to our judges, who gave up their time to assess the competitors, we must also thank the college’s art department for designing many of the stunning outfits on show.”

The judges in the competition, Paul Smith, Steve Laird, Baron Laird, David Anthony, Nathan Moody and Abigail Clough, are all salon owners themselves.

Lyn Surgeon, principle at the college, said: “I am immensely proud of our students and their outstanding achievements.

“It was an inspiring evening.”
