A FORMER lollipop lady who keeps getting in trouble after the breakdown of her marriage is behind bars.

Burnley magistrates heard how Wendy Sims, 34, had gone into the town's police station with a rucksack asking to be locked up.

They wouldn't oblige but the justices did.

The defendant, who had gone on to damage a police car and lunge at an officer in the melee which followed, was yesterday jailed for a 140 days.

She was given 28 days in jail and the bench activated a previous suspended sentence of 112 days.

Sims, of Bar Street, Burnley, had admitted damaging the reflective strips on the police vehicle and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, on March 1.

The court has previously heard how Sims had never flouted the law until her marriage broke down.

The defendant, who had had problems in her younger days, was said to need help.
