THE search for the untried takeaway continues and this week led me into Haslingden, where I was faced with a dilemma three different kinds of takeaway, all next door to each other.
Using the scientific method of picking the one on the corner which was easiest to park next to, I found myself in Ming's Cantonese.
The surroundings are simple, with a vast menu displayed behind the counter.
The menu is extensive, with a number of unusual dishes.
I played safe with my order, going for the crispy strips of beef in a hot and tangy sauce with boiled rice.
I was more ambitious with the better half, opting for the king prawns in go tar hot and spicy sauce, mainly because I wasn't sure what it was.
In total the bill came to £11.75.
The meals were ready in just over 10 minutes and I was heading home with the heater on full trying to keep them from falling victim to the sub zero temperatures.
I don't think a journey from Haslingden to Blackburn did my crispy strips any favours, as they required a full minute in the microwave and were a little on the dry side as a result.
They also lacked a little in the hot and spicy department, being a tad bland for my liking, but it was a good sized portion and very well presented, with slices of carrot adding colour.
The king prawn dish seemed to survive the journey much better and there was a good helping of prawns in a very tangy sauce with plenty of fresh vegetables.
If I lived nearer I'd definitely pay a return visit to Ming's.
