DAVID Dunn coming back to Blackburn Rovers might just be newspaper gossip at this stage.

But come the summer I think he would jump at the chance of returning to Ewood.

And I, like all Rovers followers, would be delighted to see him in the blue and white again.

It's his home town club and he has a possible chance of playing European football next season the way Blackburn are going at the moment.

And don't forget, he didn't even want to leave Blackburn in the first place - if it wasn't for the falling out with the previous manager he probably would have stayed.

When he went to Birmingham I was surprised because I thought he was good enough to go to a better club.

But one thing's for sure, if they go down this season he'll definitely be looking to get back into the top flight.

Putting aside the sentimental reasons, I don't think there's any better place for him to go than Blackburn anyway.

I know I have links with the club, but if I was a player now and had offers from clubs like, say, Charlton and Aston Villa, I'd go for Rovers.

The first reason is because of the manager and the job he's dong and the second is that this is a small town club putting itself back on the map.

It's far more exciting than the situation at a lot of clubs, who are just playing to stay afloat in the Premier League.

Villa might be a big club with big crowds but now they're just average and not even a top half of the table team.

Dunny must look at Rovers now, fifth in the Premiership and challenging for Europe and think I fancy some of that'.

If you take out the top three, and maybe Arsenal and Spurs, Blackburn should be one of the top choices for players now.

They've shaken of the undeserved reputation and now attract flair players like Craig Bellamy and David Bentley.

So Dunny would fit in perfectly, especially if Tugay doesn't take up his contract offer and there's a void in midfield for a talented and creative ball player.

But if Mark Hughes doesn't take a chance on him, one thing is for certain - if Birmingham do go down there will be a queue of Premiership clubs waiting to snap him up.
