A teenage singing sensation from Chorley is to fly to Holland to produce her debut album which she hopes will make her a star.

Sandra Matias, 19, moved to the town from Portugal when she was eight, and has already recorded her first single, Sentada Na Nha Quarto, which is sung in the Portuguese dialect of Cape Verde.

The song, which translates as Sitting In My Room, showcases her diverse musical influences which include British hip hop artists, Massive Attack.

She will fly to Holland in April with producer Tony Santos to record the rest of her debut album and meet with record chiefs.

Before that, Sandra, of Shaw Hill Street, will promote the single at London's Pantanao club with a live performance.

Shortly after completing the single she said: "I'm not getting too carried away just yet. I just want to get this album finished and I hope it sells.

"I recorded the song in a Portuguese dialect because there is a musical resurgence in that region, but it still sticks to its own musical traditions."

Sandra has been singing for several years and has showcased her talents at numerous school competitions and has sung at Chorley Little Theatre.

The former Albany Science College pupil has studied Spanish, French and law at Runshaw College.

Her singing is influenced by the likes of Toni Braxton, Alicia Keys, and Cape Verdean singer, Suzanna Lubrano.

With new tracks in the pipeline and a hot gig in London coming up, Sandra's hopeful that her soulful sound will be enjoyed by a much wider audience.
