Chorley's latest home defeat saw them flop against a workmanlike Eastwood side, unrecognisable from the team hammered 4-0 by the Magpies on the opening day of the season.

In fairness, the visitors came to Victory Park having won their last three but they were helped on their way here by a toothless Chorley performance.

Town keeper Rob Poulter could hardly have had an easier afternoon.

His goal was threatened only twice, first when Michael Bromham's low cross-shot flashed just wide of the far post shortly before the break and secondly when a decent build-up led to Joe Gibbons scuffing a weak shot straight at the keeper, as the Magpies sought in vain for an equaliser.

The decisive goal had arrived on 48 minutes, Chris Davies with space just inside the box driving a hard low shot into the corner past a motionless Phil Priestley.

But the keeper had already kept Chorley in the game with a superb reflex stop from Alan Lamb and a finger-tip save from Paul Michell.

The miss of the match also occurred before the break when Priestley's mistimed punch clear left Adam Curley with an open net but he drove his shot wide.

Chorley did up the tempo in the later stages but without testing Poulter, leaving Eastwood worthy winners. Chorley skipper Jamie Vermiglio and player-boss Shaun Teale both picked up knocks.

Final score: Chorley 0 Eastwood Town 1
