Members of the public are to be given a regular chance to quiz top town hall decision makers.

For the first time, members of Blackpool Council's cabinet will have to answer to members of the public as well as their fellow councillors at the monthly full council meeting.

A similar arrangement is already in place in Wyre, where councillors are regularly put under the spotlight on a wide range of issues.

The opportunity is open to everyone, regardless of age or background, and questions can be on any subject.

Council leader, Cllr Roy Fisher, said: "The council strives to be as open and accountable as possible, and engage with the public through as many different methods as it can. This is another way for us to consult with the community.

"It must be stressed that this opportunity is open to all, regardless of their age or background, and we are keen to meet members of the public who don't normally have the confidence to come forward, or have never stepped inside the town hall.

"The questions will be heard in a very relaxed setting, and it's also a great opportunity to come and see the Council Chamber for yourself and see how a typical council meeting is run."

As well as asking questions, members of the public will still have the right to make a five minute presentation at the start of each meeting.

The next council meeting is on March 22 and anyone wanting to ask a question should contact the democratic services department on 01253 477042.
