ONE of the most popular 60s soul bands, Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band will be performing in Morecambe on March 12.

Washington had two of the biggest selling UK albums of the 1960s - Hand Clappin, Foot Stompin and Funky Butt Live, which was in the charts for 48 out of 52 weeks in 1966.

Incredibly, only The Sound of Music and Bridge Over Troubled Water sold more in the UK that year.

Geno came over to the UK with the US Airforce and stayed and subsequently became the UK Soul man.

His level of touring and the high energy of his gigs was, and still is the stuff of legends and was immortalised by the 80s hit Geno by Dexys Midnight Runners.

Geno's sets were relentless, with almost every song segueing into the next.

The band is on tour to promote their new album Pimp My Rhythm, which is due to be released later this year.

Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band play the Platform in Morecambe on Sunday, March 12. 7.30pm. Tickets are from 01524-582803.
