A GROUND-BREAKING children's book from a Chorley author has gone on sale in Burnley.
Former teacher Gill Duckworth, from Brinscall, near Chorley, says her book "Anna's New Friend" is the first to focus on special needs youngsters and provide an ideas section that helps parents and teachers develop the young readers' learning.
The 51-year-old worked with special needs children in Bolton before retiring due to ill-health and is now looking to publish a series of books along the same theme.
The book, praised by charity Scope which is also on their recommended reading list, tells the story about a friendship between a little girl and her best friend Spesh, who is in a wheelchair.
Mrs Duckworth, who has formed her own publishing company, has published a first run of 1,000 books, illustrated by Oldham artist Mike Crispin, and they are now on sale for £5 from Badger Books, Keirby Walk, Burnley.
