A FORMER Accrington restaurant boss is offering a taxi service with free wine for passengers.

Ray Peake ran Callum's Bistro, Abbey Street, for 14 years before he gave up the business last September to try his hand at something new.

He recently set up Callum's Taxis, based at his home in Curate Street, Great Harwood, and now offers an unusual service in a bid to attract customers.

Customers will be offered a glass of wine or, if they are travelling in the morning, a cup of coffee and newspaper of their choice. Mr Peake's taxi even features a DVD player in the back.

He said: "I am offering a choice of red or white wine to carry on the Callum's ethos. Callum's was a licensed restaurant and people drank copious amounts of wine and I just thought it was a nice touch.

"There are more than 400 taxis in Hyndburn and I need to be a little bit different."
