SEVEN people, including a police officer, have been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of a Blackburn teenager who went missing 70 days ago.

One man, not the policeman, has been charged with abduction, two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-17, three charges of taking indecent photographs of a child and one charge of possession of an indecent photograph.

Lancashire Police became involved in the hunt for the 14-year-old initially in Merseyside a fortnight ago and led two separate raids in the Greater Manchester area.

The man who has been charged, James Constantine Henry, 24, of Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, has been remanded in custody by Blackburn magistrates for trial at Preston Crown Court.

The other six have been bailed pending further inquiries.

One of the six is a serving Greater Manchester Police officer, who has been suspended by his force pending the outcome of the Lancashire Police investigation.

A police spokesman said: "The girl was found safe and well and has returned to the place she was before she disappeared.

"We can confirm that we were asked by Merseyside Police to get involved following her disappearance in June. We were asked to help around two weeks ago.

"We interviewed the girl's family and carried out searches in Greater Manchester, with the co-operation of the police there.

"She was found last Thursday."

The GMP officer could face a disciplinary hearing once the criminal investigation has been completed.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "A serving GMP officer was arrested on Tuesday, 16 August, 2005 on suspicion of abduction.

"The 25-year-old officer has been bailed pending further inquiries. He was suspended from duty on Wednesday, 17 August, 2005."
