A MANHUNT has been launched after a 29-year-old was slashed with a Samurai sword and attacked by a Rottweiler dog.

Police today said they were looking for Scottish man John Orr, 42, in connection with the incident, in Glenluce Crescent, Shadsworth, Blackburn.

Officers said the wanted man is also being sought by police in Scotland in relation to a separate assault and should not be approached.

It is thought he may be with another man - Andrew McGrowy - who is also from Scotland.

Police said a man carrying a Samurai sword and holding on to a Rottweiler dog came out of one of the houses in Glenluce Crescent at 4pm on Sunday and attacked a local 29-year-old man in the street.

The victim required surgery to his arms and is currently comfortable at Royal Preston Hospital.

Orr is described as 5ft 7ins with blond, short hair with dark roots and was wearing a long, blue top and blue tracksuit bottoms.

Eye witness Tracy Harrison, 26, who lives on Glenluce Crescent, said the incident happened after an argument.

She said: "The dog was going for a little boy but ended up getting the dad. The dog had hold of his arm in his mouth before he was pushed into a bush and threatened with the sword. He put his arms up to protect himself but that was when he got hit with the sword."

Mrs Harrison added: "It was very scary, horrific. The little boy was right in the middle of it all and he was covered in blood from his dad's injuries.

"The victim's arms were a mess. You could see all the veins in his arms."

Det Insp Ian Critchley, of Blackburn CID, said: "The dog attacked the man and left several bite marks on his body and the victim also received slash wounds to his arms. He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary and transferred to Royal Preston Hospital for surgery to his arms.

"We are appealing for any witnesses to the attack, which was a very serious assault and disturbance on the street. We also want to hear from anyone who knows the immediate whereabouts of Orr.

"It is thought he may be with another man known as Andrew McGrowy, who is also from Scotland.

"We don't want people to approach him because we don't know whether he has a weapon with him."
