FELL runner Mick Howard is a cool customer!

The Radcliffe Athletic Club runner took on scorching conditions to complete the gruelling 21-mile Wasdale Fell Race in the Lake District.

An English championship event with an estimated 300 runners Mick, whose time was 5hrs 56 mins, was one of only 133 who finished. Even top racers were floored by the heat.

The event, a classic among Lakesland fell races, takes in the climbs like Pillar, Great Gable and Scafell Pike.

Window cleaner Mick, who lives in Edenfield, not only completed the event but he had driven himself three hours to Wasdale the same day and then promptly revived himself in the nearest stream, had a buttie, and drove himself back home!

Sheila and Peter McNulty from Radcliffe AC also started the event but the heat got the better of them. Peter was well into the race, around 15 miles when he dropped out.

Now Mick will have to wait for the full results to see if has gained any points in the English championship event.
