ACCRINGTON Rugby League side took on a strong running and tough tackling Wigan Tech outfit minus several key players and went down 42-12.

Hit by some ealy injuries Accrington let in three tries just before the interval which virtually put them out of the game.

Despite playing some good rugby for long periods, Accrington were unable to make any impression on the home defence.

At half-time the score was 28-0 and hardly a true reflection, with the visitors having a fair amount of possession.

The second half amounted to a complete disaster for Accrington with them losing centre Hindle with a nasty fracture to his arm and scrum-half Horrocks leaving the field with what was later found to be a broken ankle.

Despite this, Accrington still competed well, even towards the end of the game when they only had nine fit men on the field. During this time they scored two good tries to shock the home side who had a four-man advantage.

It was only late on that Wigan pulled away and ran in two late tries.
