CONFUSION over a "No Waiting" order made in the 1960s - has finally come to an end - after 33 years.

The original order to put a yellow line on the road outside what is now Christopher Croft's home in Water Street, Earby, was made in 1962.

But for some unknown reason the line was not painted until 1992 when red-faced council officers realised the mistake.

By that time Earby had switched from Yorkshire to Lancashire.

Mr Croft, who knew nothing about the order when he moved in 14 years ago, suddenly found he could no longer park outside his home.

After the Department of Transport cast doubts over the legality of the lines Pendle Council decided to cover itself by asking councillors to approve a new order banning daytime waiting outside Mr Croft's and his neighbour's homes.

The move is due to be agreed tonight by West Craven area committee. Members will hear there was a good chance that the DoT might revoke the 1962 order if there was no new order.
