Idon't suppose it will help Mr J Pilkington's sense of paranoia (Letters, January 4), if I tell him that Blackburn Labour Party had absolutely nothing to do with the local Racial Equality Council's successful application for a National Lottery grant.

The Racial Equality Council applied for a grant, as they are perfectly entitled to do, and, presumably, the Lottery Charities Board were impressed by the strength of the application.

We do not, however, share Mr Pilkington's horror at this grant, and we believe that all efforts to create a fair and equal, multi-racial society in Blackburn, deserve the support of all right-thinking citizens.

PHIL RILEY, Secretary, Blackburn Labour Party, Pleckgate Road, Blackburn.
