BURNLEY chairman Frank Teasdale today received director Basil Dearing's official letter of resignation from the six-man Turf Moor board.

And the latest turn in the Burnley board-room crisis looks set to spark further developments before the weekend.

Dearing verbally resigned at the AGM but now it appears he has made his final decision to sever his links with the board of directors.

Mr Teasdale confirmed: "I have, this morning, received a letter from Mr Dearing informing me officially of his resignation. I am now awaiting the next development." Dearing, a director for 11 years and the Burnley club solicitor, dropped his resignation bombshell at a stormy meeting two days before Christmas.

In a speech to several hundred shareholders, he launched a savage assault on fellow director Clive Holt.

Dearing claimed that Holt concealed the letter he had sent out to 20 small shareholders offering to snap up their shares for himself at above the premium rate.

Two weeks after Holt wrote his letter, a scramble for shares began when board critic Harry Brooks publicly advertised to buy up shareholdings for £50 - double the premium going rate.

Now Dearing has made his decision official, everything appears to hinge on the decision of Holt.
