RUPERT was saved by a scarf when he went roaming on a country road.

A passing motorist spotted the little dog in the road, where cars were swerving to avoid him.

So the driver used his scarf as a lead, popped the dog in his car in his car and took him to the pub.

And luckily for Rupert, standing at the bar at the Wilpshire Hotel was Blackburn vet Bill Jones, who immediately took to the little chap.

"I decided to take him to the kennels at the surgery in Redlam," said Bill.

"He is a lovely little dog, very friendly.

"He is a cross with a poodle or a Bedlington terrier and I think he will be about 10 years old. Someone must be missing him as he has been well cared for."

Rupert was found on the road between the reservoirs near the Shepherd's Rest pub at Rishton.
