GIVING Bury Shopmobility a New Year cash boost is the Tesco supermarket chain which has weighed in with a £500 donation to help the town's disabled and elderly shoppers.

The charity recently lost some of its outside funding when the Norwich pulled its support.

Tesco has long been aware of the benefits of supporting disabled shoppers through direct financial help and also accessibility into and inside its stores.

Bury Shopmobility is not the first scheme to receive its financial help which comes through the Tesco Charity Trust, from which other schemes throughout the country have benefited.

In making its donation the Trust recognises Bury Shopmobility's contribution to the business community and the need for shops to give their support for the scheme through better access and facilities for disabled shoppers.

Said Shopmobility manager Mike Corner: "We are grateful for the donation and thank all the staff at Tesco Stores Bury. We would also like to thank manager Ken Martin and personnel manager Sue Parry for promoting our charity to the Tesco Charity Trust."
